Planned community in India to carry U.S. Open marks

"The U.S. Tennis Association is licensing the U.S. Open trademark to a real estate developer in India, a deal believed to mark the first time an American sports property has cashed in overseas in this fashion.
The 10-year deal is worth a low-seven-figure amount annually, a source said, making the contract worth a minimum of $10 million. The deal is set to be announced today.
The developer, Nirmal Lifestyle, envisions its 20 planned communities each having sections dedicated to at least tennis, soccer and cricket. Sources said the group last week met with the NBA in New York, as well.
The U.S. Open section of the developments would include homes designed with the event’s themes, including the flaming ball logo and its trademark blue courts, as well as clubhouses and perhaps even an Open merchandise store." ...
