SI enters retail market with Detroit location

"Sports Illustrated is extending its 54-year-old brand to retail for the first time, with an SI store scheduled to open this month in the new North Terminal at Detroit’s Metro Airport.
The 831-square-foot shop will sell a variety of licensed merchandise bearing logos of local Michigan pro and college teams, as well as SI-branded publishing-oriented licensed goods, such as calendars, books and posters. Interactive kiosks will allow shoppers to log onto SI.com, and flat-screen televisions will show live and taped sports programming.
The store is being launched under a multiyear commitment with Delaware North Cos. and could serve as the prototype for similar locations, as new airport terminals open in Los Angeles and other markets during the next year. Delaware North has a broad sports footprint, as it is the owner of the TD Banknorth Garden and the Boston Bruins, and its Sportservice concessions group has operations at multiple pro sporting venues." ...
