Nashville angling for convention hotels

"The bond market may have cold feet, but hoteliers still are eager to get in bed with Nashville.

Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Peabody and Starwood are some of the names eyeing the chance to build at least one new hotel on the six-block site south of Broadway that will host the new convention center.

While one 1,000-room hotel is planned initially, three possible locations are on the map. The site could end up with two hotels if more rooms are needed, says Metro Councilman Charlie Tygard, a member of the convention, tourism and public entertainment facilities committee.

Proposals are due Nov. 13 from the hotel developers chasing the big convention market that Nashville hopes to attract when its new 1.2 million-square-foot Music City Center goes up some four years from now." ...
