Area museums struggle to balance budgets as attendance rises

"Museums enjoy the reputation of timeless temples of art. But throughout western New York, hard times are eroding these venerable institutions' most precious assets: their budgets.
The long recession has brought layoffs, salary cuts and hiring freezes to Monroe County museums. In Buffalo, the influential Albright-Knox Art Gallery saw a 24-percent drop in revenues from July 1, 2008 to April 24, 2009. It will close for the week of May 18 to 24." ...
